NRMC Awarded Funds for Safety Grant
For the second year in a row, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center has been named the Louisiana Hospital Association's (LHA) Trust Funds as a recipient of its Funds for Safety grant. Each year, the Funds for Safety Grant Program awards up to $300,000 to LHA Trust Fund members for initiatives designed to improve safety or reduce liability exposure.
"NRMC's grant proposal this year identified a process for reducing specimen labeling errors in the lab interface," explained Kirk Soileau, Chief Executive Officer. "The Funds for Safety Grant Program considered our ideas and awarded us the grant to implement a new process. Last year, we received an award for the planned implementation of CO2 monitoring which has helped our clinical team address hypoxia and respiratory distress in patients. We are extremely pleased with the outcomes of the CO2 efforts, and we know that our new grant for the lab will also further improve patient safety when we implement it this year. I am proud of our team on their commitment to patient safety, and greatly appreciate LHA Trust Funds for making initiatives such as these possible."
Since its creation in 2012, the Funds for Safety Grant Program have helped fund LHA Trust Funds members' initiatives to improve patient or visitor safety. In total, the grant program has awarded 1.2 million to fund 57 unique projects of member hospitals in Louisiana. These initiatives include reducing medication errors, patient falls and infections, improving patient outcomes, security and communication, and implementing new technology to improve the culture of safety.
