Board certified urologists Dr. Kenneth Perego and Dr. Erik Castle with NRMC Urology areas of expertise includes care for kidneys, bladder, and ureters of both men and women. Urologic Surgery

Dr. Perego and Dr. Castle provide a wide range of surgical expertise.  Urology Associates expertise includes biopsies to minimally invasive surgery to radical cystectomy to remove the bladder, nephrectomy to remove a kidney, prostatectomy to remove the prostate, and adrenalectomy to remove the adrenal gland. They also perform cryosurgery, robotic-assisted surgery, and complex reconstructive surgeries.

Cancer Care

Dr. Perego and Dr. Castle have dedicated their professional careers to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. They see both men and women for kidney, adrenal, ureter, and bladder cancers. Specific to men, they are experts in diagnosing and treating prostate cancer and testicular cancer as well as tumors in the scrotum, penis, and retroperitoneal lymph nodes.

The Urology Associates team works closely with the medical oncologist and radiation oncologist at NRMC Cancer Center to provide seamless care for patients who need oncology services as part of their cancer treatment plan often following surgical removal of tumors.  They also participate on the NRMC Tumor Board in which they study and discuss complex cases with their colleagues.

Both Dr. Perego and Dr. Castle use advanced imaging techniques to diagnose and monitor patients’ conditions as well as highly specific pathology studies to identify cancer markers, antigens, and types and grade of cancer. In the Surgery suites, they are experts in surgically removing tumors and as well as organs for advanced cancers affecting the kidneys, bladder, adrenal glands, and prostate. They are also experienced in the use of a tissue sparing technique called Space Oar to help ensure a better long-term quality of life for patients receiving prostate radiation treatments.

Experience and Background

Dr. Perego

Past President of the Louisiana Urological Society, Dr. Perego works actively to educate the community about men’s health issues including prostate cancers and their link to other hereditary cancers. He is a leading expert in the treatment prostate cancer including cryotherapy as well as the treatment of incontinence for bladder conditions using neuromodulation.

Dr. Perego is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Society of Endourologists, and is the Co-Founder and past President of Christian Medical and Dental Society.

Dr. Castle

Having completed post-residency fellowship training at Mayo Clinic in 2004, Dr. Castle was one of the first urologists in the nation to perform robot-assisted radical cystectomy in 2005. He perfected reconstructive surgery techniques to create neobladders to replace patients’ cancerous bladders. Then in 2008, he began performing highly complex Robot-Assisted Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection to remove cancerous retroperitoneal lymph nodes caused by testicular cancer.  Dr. Castle has been performing Robot-Assisted Urological surgery since 2003. He has authored hundreds of publications in the field of Urology and Urological Surgery as well as served on various national and international urological committees including the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines panel for the Early Detection of Prostate Cancer.

Dr. Castle is a member of the American Association of Clinical Urologists, American College of Surgeons, American Urological Association, and Endourological Society.
