NRMC Primary Care Clinic Recognized by Congressman Johnson as Exemplary
Natchitoches Regional Medical Center (NRMC) received recognition today for its newly created rural health clinic from Congressman Mike Johnson, who serves Louisiana’s Fourth District during the Natchitoches Parish Town Hall on Monday, July 1st at the Natchitoches Municipal Building. Congressman Johnson then visited NRMC.
“I am truly grateful to my friend, Kirk Soileau, CEO at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, and his leadership team for their hospitality today. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the facilities and the opportunity to meet so many of the providers and associates who are doing such extraordinary work here every day,” noted Congressman Johnson. “NRMC is providing an exceptional model of vision and innovation in meeting the variety of healthcare needs for a large area of our state, and we applaud them for their success and continued growth. I will continue to do all I can to support these efforts.”
The NRMC Rural Health Clinic expands primary care services in the parish especially for the most vulnerable community members — those without a local provider. When the State of Louisiana expanded Medicaid access in 2017 adding over 400,000 beneficiaries statewide to the insured population roles, the vast majority of these patients still had no access to primary care. NRMC’s innovative clinic offers primary care to its community, seven days a week, 12 hours each day and is a first of its kind in Louisiana and possibly the nation. The Clinic team provides care for both acute illnesses and minor injuries, well checks, and the management of chronic health concerns.
“After an extensive community health needs assessment in 2017, we identified a need in our parish for expanded primary care services. By opening a clinic that accepts Medicaid and provides primary care with extended hours, we hope to improve the health of our community by providing an alternative for patients to avoid the Emergency Department. The response thus far from our community has been overwhelmingly positive,” explained Kirk Soileau, NRMC Chief Executive Officer. “If someone is sick, we want them to come in and see a provider that same day. We welcome walk-ins, same-day appointments, and regular scheduled appointments. We also provide immunizations and basic screenings. We know that early diagnosis and treatment saves lives especially for heart disease and cancer. For those with diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure, our team educates patients about their medications, lifestyle choices, and nutrition while managing these conditions on an ongoing basis. Best of all, this care is close to home and easy to access,” Soileau added.
