Natchitoches Group Travels to Baton Rouge Meets with legislators, celebrates Tricentennial
A group of representatives from Natchitoches Parish visited Baton Rouge for “Natchitoches Day at the Capitol” organized by the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce on March 18, 2014 to meet with legislators and showcase the Tricentennial of Natchitoches.
Participating were Northwestern State University, the Natchitoches Visitors Center, the City of Natchitoches, Natchitoches Parish Government, the Cane River National Heritage Area, and others. Helping make the event successful were sponsors Sabine State Bank, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, Bank of Montgomery, Southern Scripts, Atmos Energy, NSU Alumni Association, and Collins and Stamey Real Estate.
The group set up tables with local information in the Rotunda of the Capitol and distributed materials and meat pies to the crowds and legislators. The Senate and House both recognized the group from Natchitoches, with Mayor Lee Posey even addressing the House at session opening after the reading of a Resolution of Support for the Natchitoches Tricentennial.
Support for expansion of Highway 6 West (El Camino Real) and continued support for the East/West Bypass around Natchitoches, as well as the Tricentennial, were all discussion points. The evening reception honored legislators, aides and friends of Natchitoches at the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite in the Pentagon Barracks.
The Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce helps make Natchitoches Parish a better place to live and work through membership programs and resources, workforce development, legislative advocacy and economic development.
