Hospitalist Program Takes Patient Care to the Next Level
At Natchitoches Regional Medical Center (NRMC), the newly implemented Hospitalist Program is working well and receiving praise throughout the hospital for the high level of patient care it is providing.
“While we are not the first to implement a hospitalist program, I believe we have a unique and stellar hospitalist program in place that is serving our patients and community well. We’ve built the service on strong communication, acute care expertise, and patient care coordination. All of which work hand-in-hand to ensure better outcomes for our hospitalized patients,” explained Kirk Soileau, Chief Executive Officer.
Hospitalists are specially trained physicians who oversee the care of patients within the hospital setting. They are highly valued members of the hospital team. Often hospitalists are involved in complicated cases which require strong levels of communication between the nursing staff, specialists, and internal departments such as the laboratory, imaging, and surgery, as well as, the patients’ primary care physicians and any specialists needed.
According to NRMC Chief Nurse Executive Dawna DeBlieux, RN, NP, “We are pleased to have Dr. Anil Matta at the helm of our Hospitalist Program. With an impressive medical education and career, Dr. Matta understands the needs of acutely ill patients and works diligently to provide outstanding care. From a nursing perspective, we see first-hand the positive outcomes the hospitalist program is fostering.”
According to Dr. Matta, “It is my duty to ensure all the patient’s medical needs are met and to coordinate that care in a timely manner. I take time to explain the diagnosis and treatment plans and answer patients and families’ questions. For patients who are very ill, I may see them multiple times in a single day. I will do what needs to be done to get patients on the road to recovery.”
“We look forward to the growth of our hospitalist program, and would like to thank the hospital team, our medical staff, patients and families for helping make this new service a success. By working together, we will continue to bring new services to NRMC which will help ensure good outcomes for every patient entrusted to our care,” explained Soileau.
