Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship Recipients

The NRMC Foundation is making a positive impact through its scholarship program. Since its inception, over $400,000 in scholarships have been awarded to students in the fields of nursing, radiology, laboratory sciences, and pharmacology.  Following are several of the scholarship recipients who are now NRMC Associates and inspiring excellence everyday

Reneka Johnson - Nurse at NRMC Hospital

Reneka Johnson

Reneka is looking forward to starting her new career upon graduation in the Spring. Reneka has worked in our Nutritional Services Department for several years and helped serve meals at the Courtyard. She said the residents touched her heart, and she wanted to help them and make a difference, so she decided to go into nursing. “I am so thankful for the scholarship and support of the hospital. NRMC really does inspire excellence and encourages associates to be the best they can be.”

Kary-Katharine (KK) McCormick

Our scholarships are not limited to those seeking a nursing degree. The Foundation has provided assistance to allied health professionals in pharmacy, laboratory and radiology. KK is one such recipient who obtained her degree as a Radiology Tech from Northwestern State University. She completed a clinical rotation at NRMC and decided that she wanted to be a part of the NRMC team upon graduation ."I not only received hands-on training at NRMC but found the friendliness of the staff played a big part in my decision to stay in Natchitoches,“ KK said. “Bones are cool” she added, and said she finds it fascinating to “look inside “ the human body.

Kaitlyn Oliphant - Emergency nurse

Kaitlyn Oliphant

Kaitlyn was a recipient of a scholarship through the NRMC Foundation. Her mother’s illness was instrumental in her choosing the healthcare field. She said she wanted to know “the why” and to help those suffering to heal and feel better. She learned of the scholarship program from her instructor at NSU and decided to apply. Kaitlyn worked as a extern at NRMC as she completed her studies and liked that everyone was patient focused. Kaitlyn is a nurse in the Emergency Department at NRMC.

Misty Dalme - Emergency department manager

Misty Dalme

Misty is most grateful for the assistance provided by the Foundation. “As a single Mom of 3, I would not have been able to attend nursing school without that scholarship.” Upon graduation, Misty worked in the Med-Surg and the Emergency Departments at NRMC. When she made the decision to pursue her Master’s degree, she applied again for a scholarship. “I didn’t know if a second scholarship was an option, but the hospital encourages career advancement for its associates and once again my family benefited from the scholarship program.” Misty is now Manager of the Emergency Department.
