College of Nursing Receiving Funding for a New Faculty Position
With its ongoing priority to ensure excellent healthcare close to home, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and the NRMC Foundation have inked a five-year agreement to fund a faculty position at Northwestern State University’s School of Nursing.
“We are fortunate to have an outstanding nursing program in our own backyard,” said Kirk Soileau, NRMC Chief Executive Officer. “By funding this faculty position, the NSU nursing program will be able to increase enrollment, offer more classes, and further improve its baccalaureate program. With this initiative, we are planning for the future healthcare needs of our community, because we know that the demand for nurses is going to increase over the next 5-to-10 years.”
In addition to the faculty position, NRMC also supports the nursing program by offering clinicals at its facilities. For many years, NSU and NRMC have teamed up to provide additional real-life nursing experiences to the students in departments such as emergency, medical-surgical, obstetrics and specialty care. These experiences help students gain valuable training in which they can go beyond the classroom and apply their knowledge and skills in an actual hospital setting.
“NSU offers students the opportunity to study under the direction of amazing faculty members who prepare them for success,” explained Julie Klymas, Chief Nursing Executive at NRMC. “NSU is one of the highest ranked nursing programs in the country with a 100 percent pass rate on the national licensure examination. We hope to offer jobs to as many of these well-educated NSU graduates as we can by offering them employment where they can continue to grow through mentoring, career ladders, and leadership opportunities,” she explained.
“The NRMC Foundation has provided more than $400,000 in nursing and allied health scholarships through the years to students and supporting this new faculty position at NSU aligns well with the Foundation’s mission,” explained Sydney Evans, NRMC Foundation President. “The Foundation works hard to raise funds each year through special events and our donors’ generosity. Being able to financially help the nursing school continue to grow is perhaps one of our greatest accomplishments. We appreciate all those who support the Foundation and who help make donations such as this one possible,” he said.
